Community Preparedness For Disaster Management
Natural hazards/disasters like Tsunami pose greatest threat to human beings all over the world. Tsunami 2004 has left ever unforgettable scar in the minds of the people .Loss of precious lives of all our fellow human beings and the unestimatable damages; all these are a great cause for concern .On one side, the loss of economy and on the other side damages to infrastructure etc. While efforts are on throughout the world to give relief and rehabilitation to the affected, we are concentrating on how well we can prepare our community to prevent loss of life as anything could be rehabilitated but the loss of life. We are carrying out series of education, awareness and training programes for the community/people from Nagapattinam. We have plans to extend to almost all the coastal districts in India and we have initiated in Nagapattinam. In this programme we train and prepare the public/community on all aspects of disaster and how well they can get prepared themselves to save the lives of their near and dears, in the event of any natural disaster. We tell the community regarding the scientific aspects of all the natural hazards/disasters like flood, earthquake, tsunami etc., we are also preparing to provide the community with different types of kits, so that they can use during an emergency.
