This is a cultural and anthropological study that explores significance and meaning in the home environment of weavers who has a strong culture based on their occupation. There are three primary foci for this study: (1) the existing scenario on environmental cognition, symbolism and cultural values concerning housing and settlement of weavers. (2) The housing values of the weavers as a comparison between villages at different context. (3) At various context, if sustainability of culture and built environment exists, and the methodologies and principles based on which the continuity is achieved.
Defining parameters of the study: what are the weavers' values concerning housing, home and the built environment; what role does the built environment play in their cultural identities; and how do they understand the effects that housing has on their lives and occupation as an extension of their culture. These questions are explored within a theoretical framework that includes symbolic identity, and non-verbal communication. The data suggests that the housing and settlement plays a supportive role in the construction and sustenance of weavers’ cultural identities.
How the architecture and location of weavers habitation structures provide clues into the social and political factors driving and forming a community. Elements such as size, construction, spatial distribution, and use of interior space, helps in the better understanding of their cultures over period of time establishing continuity and sustainability , through an inter-site comparison .
This paper would conclude that the weavers settlement in its pattern, housing, culture "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” what is sustainability development according to the Brundtland Report
